HVAC ducting is an area that has a tremendous effect on your “indoor air quality.”
If your HVAC ducting is sweating or suffering from condensation, it may be serving as a breeding ground for fungal growth. Microbial fungal growth, also known as mold, gives off a gas that can be harmful to the health of the occupants, both humans and pets.
There is usually an intake in the dwelling that has a filter to filter out harmful airborne pathogens to prevent them from entering the HVAC system. Sometimes, the filter is not adequate or doesn’t get changed often enough and the airborne particles enter into the system. If condensation is present, these particles can start a buildup of fungal growth in the active state and emit a musty smell and dangerous gas, therefore polluting the “indoor air quality.”

Mold and Odor Removal:
There are many different types of mold in existence. Mold, also known as Fungi, is the result of a consistent, ongoing source of water in what should be a controlled environment such as living quarters, be it residential, auto, boat, etc….
Along with the presence of mold, you will usually find various odors associated with it, usually described as a musty smell.
Obviously, in order to stop the smell associated with your moldy situation, the first step is to stop the source of water that is feeding the active mold that you are experiencing.
At Allan’s Disinfecting, we will identify the cause, be it a leaky roof, condensation in the crawlspace, condensation in the HVAC duct work, broken plumbing issues, etc... There are many situations.
After identifying the cause of the consistent moisture source, we will recommend various solutions to stopping the water problem.
The water problem can be complicated or a simple fix. It can range from the necessity of the crawlspace needing to be encapsulated along with the installation of a dehumidifier to simply fixing a broken water line.
After the water source has been corrected, the area will be disinfected, therefore eliminating the musty smell.
The musty smell can be dangerous to the health of the occupants depending on the particular strain of mold you have, and sometimes there are multiple strains present.
